DECLARATION OF PURPOSE
The Indiana Baptist Historical Society is a nonprofit auxiliary to the Church of Jesus Christ dedicated to all ecclesiastical affairs that pertain to the preservation, religious instruction and dissemination of religious orientated information as pertaining to Baptist Church History.
This nonprofit church auxiliary shall first of all always keep in view its responsibility to God and the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ and then aim to be in unity with our fellow brethren.
It is our desire that this nonprofit auxiliary to the Church should serve as a record of the movements and progress of the Baptist Churches; with primary focus on Indiana, throughout her history; in order that our labors as they are issued may be replete with lessons from the old paths, and that the volumes, if bound, may furnish a faithful index of the past for future generations to learn and benefit from.
We furthermore acknowledge that only by divine Providence and the sacred guidance of our Lord Jesus Christ and His fostering care may we be successful in this service to His glorious church.
The Indiana Baptist Historical Society firmly believes that Baptists of the current generation have much to learn from our former ancestors, both as to Church order and to doctrine which we know are most congenial to the mind of Christ.
The Indiana Baptist Historical Society ardently prays that our service to the Church will encourage her and the children in future generations to "walk by the same rule" which was established by God through the blood of many faithful Baptist martyrs, and also that it will strengthen and equip the hands of the rising generations after us by shaping the Baptist identity to a standard as witnessed from the Holy Scriptures.
Jeremiah 6:16 reads "Thus saith the LORD, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls."
May the Lord Jesus Christ grant His church the grace to look back and renew within her heart a spirit of gratitude and praise for His providential blessings throughout her rich history as she grows into the future.
